Kanazawa: a Heaven for Foodies

Kanazawa is blessed by its geographical position and its surrounding nature.

The city was able to develop its high quality local cuisine thanks to the abundance of high quality ingredients from the ocean, the mountains and the rice paddies.

The local community has sustained its well-balanced diet until this day.

The presence of the local artisan community enhances the importance of the local cuisine even further. The Ohi-yaki and Kutani Ceramics are two of the many locally made tableware which allow the people to appreciate the local cuisine even more.

Many cities around the world have a well-established food culture to be proud of.

However, the local food culture of Kanazawa can be seen as a whole of food, artisanship, traditional and cultural activities which are a part of the lives of the local population. This is what makes the food culture of Kanazawa unique.

The Japanese cuisine has been registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2013.

The logo was created to further promote the city of Kanazawa and its food culture both domestically and internationally.
