"Buri & Fukuragi" - Yellowtail
They can be caught around the time it starts thundering in winter.
Yellowtail is a very common fish in the Ishikawa region during the winter months. Because it thunders a lot in winter, the locals usually say that the fishing season for the yellowtail arrives at the same time as the thunder.
They are called by different names by the locals, depending their age. The youngest ones are called Kozokura; later they are called Fukuragi, Gando and Buri when fully grown.. These fish migrate southwards quickly due to their big appetite and the strong waves. The fishers don’t have much time to catch them in the waters around Nanao and the Noto peninsula.
